The Pentair WhisperFlo 1-1/2-horsepower high-performance pool pump is ideal for pool and spa combinations and for operating in-floor cleaning systems. This innovative hydraulic design moves water more efficiently and more quietly than competitive pumps. It is designed to be a tireless workhorse. Its engineered thermoplastic housing withstands extreme heat and resists corrosion. The commercial grade motor frame has a rustproof, stainless steel motor shaft and sealed bearings that never need lubrication. Engineered to provide optimum performance in any size pool or pool and spa combination, WhisperFlo is built to last a lifetime. Under typical operating conditions, WhisperFlo High Performance Pump offers the highest water flow of any high performance single -speed pump with the lowest electrical consumption. It costs less to operate, because it uses less horsepower to produce required water flow. The Pentair WhisperFlo is designed to be compatible with all cleaning systems, various filters and jet action spas. The heavy-duty/durable construction is designed for long life.
The WhisperFlo pump delivers maximum circulation efficiency at the lowest operating cost and long, trouble free life with minimal maintenance. The unique FunnelFlo diffuser and high-efficiency impeller maximize water flow and energy efficiency while minimizing turbulence and noise. Specially-engineered design assures whisper-quiet operation as documented in rigorous ETL tests. Oversized strainer basket extends time between cleanings. The see-through lid makes inspection fast and easy and the engineered polymer remains clear and strong for years. User-friendly Cam and Ramp lid is easy to remove and quickly locks in place with a quarter-turn. This is the two-speed, 1-1/2-horsepower, 230 voltage, 10.1/3.5 full load amp, energy efficient, up rated model. This pump comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Not a Whisper level on high speed..but just you could run it in a library on low speed
By B. Campbell
Replaced a working single speed 1-1/2hp Home Depot FloTec pump that was 5 years old & very loud.
Install dimensions were almost exactly the same, so the install was a breeze with minimal changes needed to plumbing.
I have a Salt Chlorine generator with a controller that has built in 2 speed pump timer built in, so I wired up the pump to it as the instructions show how to bypass the pumps 2 speed switch for this type of install.
My main reason for purchasing the full rated pump was for energy savings, which I am sure it will provide, as I now run in low speed for 16 hours & high speed for 5 hours a day. The old single speed pump used to run for 12 hours a day & had a very high amp draw (18 amps). When the WhisperFlo is running on low speed, it can barely be heard even when standing right next to it, but on high speed it is almost just as loud as the Home Depot pump. I do have to say that the output of this pump it much higher than the old pump when on high speed. I have a large spill-over from a hot tub into the pool, kind of like a 4 foot waterfall & it is a much more powerful flow now than with the old pump. One thing I am a little nervous about is how hot to the touch the motor gets when running on high speed. I used thicker gage wire than was recommended, so I know it is not a wiring resistance issue. I am hoping that it will not cause reliability issues down the line. It has never tripped due to thermal load, but it gets too hot to hold your hand on for more than about 5 seconds, the old pump was not nearly that hot. If it lasts I will be very happy with the purchase, as the pool stays crystal clean with little power use. I have not received an electric bill yet to see how much of a savings I will see, but I am expecting to save about $20-$25 per month by using this pump, so it will pay for itself in a few years. I like the filter basket & lid design much better, as the old pump was very difficult to remove the lid when tightend down. The Whisperflo does not self-prime as quickly as the old pump did, which was a little surprising to me but not a cause for concern.
