Pentair 3 HP Intelliflo Variable Speed Pump, 230-Volt, 16-Ampere

Pentair 3 HP Intelliflo Variable Speed Pump, 230-Volt, 16-Ampere

Traditional pumps operate at set, unchangeable speeds. Those speeds are almost always higher than required. As a result, they overpower the jobs they're assigned to do, which wastes energy. Intelliflo allows custom programming of optimum pump speeds for specific tasks such as filtering, heating, cleaning, spa jets and waterfalls. for virtually all applications, the optimum speed is lower than the preset, unchangeable speeds of older pumps. When water moves more slowly for longer periods, it helps reduce the occurrence of algae that forms more easily when water is pumped briskly and then allowed to rest for long intervals. Your filter works more effectively because it has more time to sift out particles from the water, and because particles aren't forced through the Filter media under needlessly high pressure. Automatic chemical dispensers and chlorinators also work better when water is kept moving.

4Looking forward to great electricity savings
By J. Bateman
Purchased to replace a single-speed whisperflo pump.

American Pool Supply did an excellent job - shipment was prompt, arrived double-boxed for extra protection, and the price was great!

Had to modify the pool plumbing a bit to accommodate it: the inlet requires a 10" minimum horizontal run, which the original plumbing did not have. With that done, it runs just fine.

Couple of gripes:

1. The control cover top door/flap is flimsy. It has a lightweight catch that feels like it's ready to break whenever you open it. It may be just fine, but it feels very cheap on an otherwise well constructed design

2. Illogical control menu & keys: For some reason, there's a 'Select' key and an 'Enter' key. I'm forever pressing the wrong one and getting annoying "Key Error" messages. As a computer geek for more years than I care to share, it's not a good sign when I have to resort to the manual to understand basic operation of the menu system.

Don't let these stop you from buying what is a very good product.

5Money well spent! Saved $100 in electricity the first month alone!
By Aaronm
This pump is very good at what it does. On low speed it will turn my pool twice in 24hrs and does so at just 120watts of electricity! Just got my first electricity bill and it was $100 less than last month - all other things being equal. Money well spent/
